Hiii,
I know I haven't posted anything in forever, but I am going to work on posting more frequently because it's not like I don't have anything to write about..
So if you didn't know already, I am back in Southern California for my second year at my University, Cal Baptist. Originally being born and raised in Texas, living in California is pretty much a whole other world. Since its my second year here I have mostly caught on to the SoCal culture. (Side note: I will always still be a Texas girl no matter how long I live in a world of hippies and surfers.) But I will have to admite, living here pretty much feels like I'm on vacation all the time. Even while taking 15 units at school, which says a lot.
I have gotten to do so many exciting things just in the few months I have been in school this semester. Mostly because I have really cool friends that invite me to go on exciting adventures.
So a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to a Florida Georgia Line concert with some really good friends of mine. So I'm sure you're thinking, okay cool this chick went to a concert, those are everywhere. But what made this concert so fun was that it was in San Diego. Well, to be more specific, Chula Vista, which is a little outside of San Diego. To be even more specific, it was approximately 5 miles away from Mexico.
As the weekend approached and we head to San Diego, we stop in Point Loma to pick up my roommates cousin. And can I just say that I think that Point Loma Nazarene University wins the award for prettiest campus in the whole world. Can we just take a moment to admire that even the freshman dorms have ocean views, just to give you a little perspective on how pretty this campus is. And not to mention that you can walk 5 minutes on campus and end up at the beach.
This seriously had me reconsidering what school I wanted to go to... (I still have mad love cbu though)
After touring this campus and getting over the initial shock of how beautiful it was, we head to an adorable pizza restaurant on the marina with a perfect oceanfront view. Totally casual...
So we made it to the hotel, got ready for the concert and headed over to the venue. It was in an amphitheater which is pretty much the only way to go for country concerts... Because what fun is a concert if you can't sing and dance along to the performers... Thats just my opinion though.
Once we get to the concert, I was extremely excited because first of all, country concert environments are always fun, and second of all I felt like I was back with my kind of people again. But I do have to say, from a Texans perspective, you could pick out those who were not true country music fans, or country people in general, I guess thats what I'm trying to say.
This concert was so fun though and Florida Georgia Line put on a great show. But I think the main reason that I had such a good time was because I was back in my element even though I was1,500 miles away from home in Southern California.
All in all it was such an exciting weekend and not many people, unless you're a Southern California local, can say that they day tripped to San Diego on just a regular weekend.
Now you can see why I say that I feel like I'm living in a vacation.
That pretty much sums up the adventure for this weekend, but I figured why not share my fun experiences.
Until next time,
-Brooke

White Sands, New Mexico
Sand dunes and
sledding do mix believe it or not.
But before I get into that, let me enlighten you a little
on these mystical white sands.
Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great
natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. These white sands
are something that cannot even be described by words.
These beautiful wave-like dunes are made of gypsum sand. The very
uncommon gypsum sands in New Mexico exist there because this state is not too
famous for a wet climate, quite the contrary. The area also has no outlet to
the sea, which means that gypsum grains that are dissolved in rainwater have no
escape from the area and eventually may become sand grains again. The
white sands have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's
largest gypsum dune field.
Cool right?!
These sand dunes are super fun to hike, climb up, and slide down.
Provided by the hotel, we carried up our sleds and began the attempt
sliding down the dunes. After failing a few times and beginning to be
out of breath from climbing up and down the dunes, we finally figured out
a strategy. We waxed the bottom of our sleds (it got pretty serious
here) and got a big push and flew down the dunes. I may be exaggerating a
little about flying down the dunes but we did make them go a lot faster
than before.
After a full day of sand dune sledding, we cleaned up and went back for a
sunset photoshoot.
Sunset at white sands was a breathtaking view. Here are a few photos.
All in all, I was
amazed by the White Sands and can't wait for my next visit back

Texas ---> California
4 Months of summer vacation? Yes, you heard right! Even just the thought of the word summer craves wanderlust and adventure. And knowing me, I always have my next trip on mind, whether it's actually going to happen or not. This summer definitely treated me well in the department of travel. Of course, wanderlust is never something that can be fully tamed. And that is what brings me here, to you, today.
As all good things must come to an end, so does summer. And as it is bittersweet that I will have to go back to those dreaded 8am classes everyday, and not having my mom in my apartment to take care of me, it also means it's time for that Texas to California road trip!
Now knowing me, of course this road trip is going to become an adventure. Because I could never just pass up some of the greatest wonders of the country.
And that brings us to where I am right now.
Yesterday the journey began. After planning on leaving Dallas at noon, and not actually leaving until 3pm (which is totally a Brooke and Jamie thing to do), we started our 8 hour journey to our first destination, Carlsbad, New Mexico. After about 6 of those hours spent just driving through Texas, we got to enjoy a breathtaking West Texas sunset hundreds of miles out in the middle of nowhere.
After passing out the second we got to the hotel room, we woke up the next morning refreshed and ready to take on the next adventure that comes our way. We arrive to the Carlsbad Caverns, barley in time for our tour might I add (which again is no surprise for us).
If you have never been, the Carlsbad Caverns are extremely breathtaking. This was my first time in theses particular caverns. I feel like things like these caverns really just boggle my mind. Really, how is it possible for people to date back millions of years to find exactly when certain rocks fell and stalagmites and stalactites formed. Also just the thought that you are 750 feet down below the ground and how it is so huge and beautiful. Our tour guide told us the story of this young boy named Jim who actually found the caverns in the late 1800s. It took Jim 5 hours just to repel down into the cave. And he went by himself! Can you even imagine?! Our tour guide also wanted us to get a feel of how dark the caves actually were. He turned off the lights and my mind was boggled once again. We were sitting in 100% darkness. Soooo cool! If you haven't been to Carlsbad caverns I definitely recommend going because it's a sight you don't get to see much.
Apart from the tour we took, there was also a self guided tour. This took about an hour and a half just to give you a perspective on how big this place actually was. Heres a few photos from the caves.
After exploring the caves we found some fun hiking trails in the Guadalupe Mountains with beautiful views.
We then began our drive to our next stop, White Sands, New Mexico! This drive was 3 hours through the middle of nowhere. 3/4 out of this drive I didn't have phone service if that tells you how barren the land was. Not that I am complaining, because I was writing this blog anyways...(: We got to drive though Lincoln national forest which was pretty exciting until we realized it was night. So we drove though the whole forest in complete darkness and heart broken because we couldn't see what could have been some beautiful sites. On the bright side, the moon was full and lite up the endless night sky and there was a fresh crisp air that felt like fall as I stuck my head out the window to enjoy it.
We finally make it to the white sands and by the way I think this is the most civilazation in a town I have seen in the past 48 hours, which says a lot. I am looking forward to seeing the sand dunes and will write about this adventure in the next few days.
PS: I apoligize for how long this post is. I promise they won't all be this long!!!

hello friends!
Hello to all,
I figured before I get too far into this whole blog thing, I should properly introduce myself. My name is Brooke, not short for Brooklyn, despite what everyone thinks. I am a currently a sophomore at California Baptist University studying Marketing. Although right now, I am at home for the summer in Dallas, TX.
I cheered at CBU my freshman year and decided that being a student and an athlete was rather hard. So for all of you college athletes out there, I have the utmost respect towards you. But with that, I decided that it was in my best effort to focus on school. So now I am a CBU cheer alumni, which means whenever I drop into practices, the rookies of the team must individually come up, introduce themselves to me, then greet me with a hug. Makes you almost feel like a celebrity right?
Now before I start to bore all of you off, I will try to share my interests in the least amount of words possible, because I have a lot.
One of my favorite things to do, in the whole wide world, is to travel. I could not come close to writing all the places I would like to go because the list goes on forever. My next favorite thing, besides traveling, are beach days. Because what is better than feeling the warm sun on your skin, laying in the soft sand, and listening to the waves. (This is part of the reason why I decided to go to school in CA). But as much as I love the beach, there is something about being out in the country on an empty field, and being able to see for miles. It's a feeling I really couldn't explain. Unless you lived in Texas of course, then maybe you would understand ;)
I love photography and am constantly annoying friends because of my desire to capture moments wherever I am. I really love flowers. They never fail to make a place look more lively. And they are not just meant for the ground and soil my friends. Invite me to basically anything outdoors, and I'll be in. Last but not least, I live for adventures. I think that doing things out of your comfort zone can never hurt and usually lead to learning something new. And if I'm going to do something crazy, it might as well be while I'm young right? (sorry mom)
I hope that you fellow readers out there feel a little more acquainted with me now and I look forward to writing again soon :)
~Brooke
